Games you bought recently.
So yeah, I got this idea from a recent youtube channel I've been watching, namely Petedorr who is an avid videogame collector. While he has a huge collection on many systems, he has somewhat inspired me to start working on my personal RPG collection and I figured I'd start small with the classics on PSX.

This thread is meant for those of you who feel like discussing recent game purchases and while I will personally be listing from a collector's point of view doesn't mean those of you who don't collect should feel left out. If you've picked up some games recently and feel like letting us know then by all means go ahead, a little motivation for buying the games in particular would be very interesting as well so go nuts here.

This thread is meant for your recent purchases only, no need to list your full collections here and keep the discussions about games you are playing right now for the other existing thread on that subject.

So without further ado, here's what I got recently:

[Image: 666818992b02c74642a90c69dab28ef7-Guilty_...erture.jpg]

Guilty Gear 2 Overture.

This was a christmas present, I've tried it and so far it looks interesting but nothing all that spectacular, it was on my wish list since I'm a huge fan of guilty gear but I'm not sure what to think of this one yet. I'll find out once I get to it but I don't have much hope for this new direction the series is taking.

Bayonetta.

This is basically Devil May Cry with a woman's touch, and what a woman it is! first time I popped this sucker in I was pretty psyched, having developped a weird kind of love for the hack 'n' slash genre over the years I gotta say this one shows promise, I never play too far into games that I'm just trying out but I gotta say i'm looking forward to playing this for real.

Magna Carta 2.

I won't lie, I loved the first game, many loathed it because of the quirky battle system wich revolved around perfect timing in button combination sequences but if you got past that you could enjoy a great game with a great story, Magna Carta 2 abolishes the battle system from the previous game and makes way for a more action oriented system and from what I've seen this one shows a LOT of promise, looking to be a great RPG indeed and you just gotta love Hyung Tae Kim's art, he's without a doubt one of my favourite art designers.

Fate/Stay Night Realta Nua.

This one's a pure collection item, the game was never released outside Japan and since this is a PS2 port of the original PC game wich I already own, the main reason I bought this is because the translation patch released by mirrormoon allows you to extract the voices from the PS2 disc and install them to work on the PC game. Nifty little extra for a die hard Fate/Stay Night fan like myself.

Revelations: Persona.

A collection piece, I popped this in and took it out 5 minutes later, this game is not for me but more on that later. This thing is hard to find in mint condition but I managed to get a passable copy of it. I'm happy with this one but...

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona.

A remake of the previous one for PSP, I've given this game a shot over the past weeks and personally I hate it, the graphics are extremely dated and did not age well, and the first person dungeon crawling is just rediculous, environments are ugly and the persona system is just too much hassle for a game wich offers no enjoyable rewards for dealing with it. The encounter rate is obscene, you fight a battle every 3 seconds I sh1t you not, Xenogears had a high encounter rate but this is crazy. Overall this game is not for me, I'll keep it for collection value but I'm not touching this ever again.

Now for the rest I won't put up a picture as I bought these to brush up my current PSX collection:

Final Fantasy 7 Black label.

Yes I admit it, For the past 12 years or so I have owned a platinum version of this game, I always found it to be horendous and it really ruined the view on my shelf. A black label version of this game isn't THAT expensive so I figured before the prices go up, I'd pick one up and now I finally own this game black label.

Final Fantasy 8 Black label.

This one I had black label, but to be honest, I don't like the european covers too much, white BG with the logo might seem cool to some people but to me, I preffer the american cover much more, I still have the euro version and won't be getting rid of it since euro saves don't work with american games and wouldn't wanna lose all the work I poured in this game.

Final Fantasy Tactics Black label.

Same deal as with FFVII, I owned the greatest hits version, I thought Platinum was bad but if I had to choose between a grey box or a flue green one, I'd go for grey lol. Still this was a bargain so I picked up the original black label anyway.

Well that's it for now, I got more stuff on the way so i'll list that when it gets here. So let's see what you guys got recently don't be shy now. Oh and for the record, if you want black label FF games, be careful on ebay, there's a scam going on where sellers are taking black label cases but put greatest hits CDs inside, they ARE different, look it up if you're not certain. Always buy games from sellers who use an actual picture of what they're selling and not a stock photo, you never know what you'll get when you buy those.

RE: Games you bought recently.
Well I just got home from the store after getting Heavy Rain.

It's umm awesome .... I think.. I only played the demo but.. that was awesome.
It looks awesome, and from what I played, it plays awesome, once you got used to the controls.

Plus it only cost me 12 dollars. traded in 3 old games I never play anymore. Then store guy did some magic and said since I had pre ordered it (I hadn't.. >.>) I got 50% discount when I traded in one game, plus I had some bonus points to use. So all in all I thought it was a nice deal, and I do't really miss the games I traded in..
(Borderlands, Bionic commando and Siren:Blood Curse)

(Oh we're putting up pictures also ? umm >.>)

RE: Games you bought recently.
Last game I bought was Star Ocean the last hope.
But the latest one would be FF13 or SS and HG for DS

Ever wonder why we have so much lag?
I will tell you.

It is because DR OCTAGANAPUSS told me Iraq is the only server in the world.
They secretly lag us like mad when we do sooo much and work hard on P.C or X-Box or even the PS3.

RE: Games you bought recently.
Well time for an update.

As I've said before I've recently gotten into collecting RPGs for PSX so naturally I'll start with my newest haul:

SaGa Frontier.

Sad story on this one, A few years back I bought this along with SaGa Frontier 2, and sold both not much later, I'll go into more detail on that soon but with this I have repurchased it and it looks promising so far, very long as well since there are like 7 playable characters each with their own story so it'll keep me busy for a while.

SaGa Frontier 2.

As I've said before, I bought this along with the first game many years ago, I didn't care what games I played back then so I popped this in before I ever got to the first. The graphics in this game are amazing, watercollered backgrounds and sprites, along with an excellent score this game is definately worth a shot... for die hard RPGamers. This game is not noob friendly at all, it chews you up and spits you out with its complex battle system that may seem neat at first but trust me later on you're gonna wish the guy who created it to die a painful death. I never beat the final boss, got to him, fought him with all I had, never even got to his last form and considdering I've always been very thorough with RPGs you can guess the result, I took it out and sold it in a fit of rage and SaGa Frontier 1 was unfortunately caught up in the whole mess. Now recently I've been talking about it with friends, watched some vids and screenshots and thought what the heck, as with Vagrant Story, I'm gonna deal with my inner demon and beat this sucker.

Legend of Mana.

I never got into the mana games until recently, I was bored as heck waiting for FFXIII so I decided to emulate Secret of Mana, I remember playing it when I was like... 8 years old a few times and it didn't apeal to me then but playing it now I persisted and I must say that the game was VERY enjoyable. Yes I know what you're all thinking "he's emulating, that's piracy!", well let me asure you I may not own the real thing but I did own it once and once I get to SNES RPGs this one is first on my list. So Legend of Mana I bought because when it first came out I was already loving the artwork of the game, I mean seriously look up screenshots and tell me you don't love that art with a straight face... They're incredible. I heard mixed reviews of the game and considdering it was never released in Europe and it was a Mana title of wich I had previously played nothing it kinda passed me by but now I've finally gotten it. It looks great but I'm not sure I'm digging the world creation aspect of the game, maybe I will later on but for now it just looks promising.

Final Fantasy XIII.

How could I not get this? Being an avid RPG veteran I just have to play this. I actually got this just yesterday so I'm probably one of the few of those veterans who didn't get this on release date. Reason was that I ordered this from Amazon as I do with most of my games and they only shipped it on monday, result, it wasn't here the day after (frustration strikes...) anyway I was bored as hell waiting for it but that allowed me to get into another series wich I have purchased recently (I'll get into that when it arrives though). So... The game's a beauty... so far anyway, only 1 hour into it so haven't done too much yet but I'm digging it. Only thing I don't like is the camera wich moves a little sloppy but it's not damaging the game, personal prefference nothing more. I'll get into more detail on the game later.

Well that's it for now, I'll be back with more games later on, when I got time off work I buy games like no tomorow, wich is ironic because I don't have an income to support it, thank god for being a cheap bastard.

Don't be shy now, post your recent purchases here, it doesn't need the pic either, that's just my own thing since many of the games I buy aren't really known by the majority of the people here.

RE: Games you bought recently.
I bought a fair whack of RPG's myself this week..... I forgot Mothers Day was this weekend too!(UK Mum's Day, I thnk America has theirs sometime in May?)

I bought:

Great game IMO, I love the whole coloured inks scheme used for the game's graphics, and the story I am finding quite compelling and captivating, if not for the release of FF XIII I'd still be playing it.

I forgot this game existed until I was having a browse through the 2 for £30 deals at Blockbuster so I grabbed this up, not played it yet though and I also just discovered there is now a PS3 International release of this game out......I'd have preferred the PS3 version.

And this :

How could I not, after all the waiting we have endured for this saying; "not right now", was never going to work for a fan of the series. So far I find the rendering of graphics to be beautiful, and I actually like the battle system, a bit limited but I much prefer it over XII and the rubbish gambit system, only thing I find slightly disappointing after a few hours playing is the linear world, I much preferred the open world exploration of XII.

Ya see Naji ? I DO buy some games. I've not forgotten about DMC4 either if you're still up for a swap.

RE: Games you bought recently.
So, quite some time since I last posted here and quite some games to list so excuse me for not using any pics this time, don't wanna clog the server and most of them end up getting removed due to pussy sites not allowing hotlinking. Anyway here goes:

For PS3:

-God of War Collection.

I ain't gonna lie, back in the day this came out, I was an avid MMORPG addict. Playing FFXI almost non stop and WoW after I was finally through with that. As a result, I fell behind quite a bit on single player games and when I finally got rid of my addiction and went back to single player games, GoW was unfortunately one of the games that completely passed me by. I had such a shitton of RPGs to play that I just couldn't be bothered with buying an action game at the time, I just wasn't into it, so I completely missed out on it. Recently however, with all the GoW3 talk that was going on back then, I talked to a friend and he kept on pestering me to get GoW. I played a demo, I loved it, I ordered collection instantly. Having played through the first 2 I now finally see what I missed out on, goddamn these games are awsome.

-God of War III.

Of course how could I not get this, the moment I played the demo I was sold, even more so when I played the first GoW. I ordered this about 2 hours after I popped in collection. having already finished it, the game was awsome, killer graphics, awsome gameplay, only gripes I have was that there wasn't as much of an impact in the innovation department as there was with GoW2, story was a little more messy than the other two and my copy was prone to crashing at some points. Aside from the crashing though, how does one improve perfection eh? great game, must buy for any PS3 owner, but that one's old news.

-Dante's Inferno.

I may be one of the few who can say this, but I've actually read Inferno. I have always been interested in Dante's vivid visualisation of the nine circles of hell but in all honestly, after reading Inferno, you will most definately realize what kind of a whack job this dude was. I can imagine most people stopping after the first page. A poem in every sense of the word, it is extremely hard to keep with the program when reading this. That said, of course I'm all for a more understandable version, and if you ask me, Dante's Inferno on PS3/360 is one of the best examples that this work of art CAN be molded into something everyone can understand. The developpers of this game did their research well, and they really succeed in bringing out the atmosphere in the game. It's a GoW clone in every aspect but if you want to experience Inferno but can't be bothered with the poem, this game is the way to go.

-Folklore.

Next few are more recent buys for me. For a launch title, this game ain't half bad at all. I bought this on recomendation and because the game is set in Irish mythology, something wich you don't see in a whole lot of RPGs at all. The game uses sixaxis in a very unique way in that you use it to yank the souls of your enemies out of their bodies, a central point of the game is defeating your enemies and absorbing their soul (Id) so that you can use them as weapons. Very nice game, not the best but definately not the worst title in excistense.

-Eternal Sonata.

From what I've seen so far, this game is just wonderfull, very nice setting, very nice looking characters and amazing music. Can't say much about the story since I'm only about 3 hours in right now but so far it's looking very nice. And yes Eph, I know you think it sucks, I don't give a sh1t so nyah.

-Valkyria Chronicles.

I only played the demo for this, and along with a shitton of recomendations, i finally got around to buying this. From what I hear it's got a very nice system and story but I really can't give an opinion on this yet aside from that it definately looks interesting.

For 360:

-Lost Odyssey.

Only game for 360 I bought recently. I'm not too big on 360 as it is and the only games I buy for it are exclusives. That being said, Lost Odyssey is definately worth it. Amazing story, amazing music, amazing characters, truly the work of a master, wich just so happens to be Sakagushi himself so no surprise there. Only thing I absolutely loathed about the game were the battle system, wich was slow as f_ck, and the main villain, who is revealed very early on and just doesn't look his part at all. Play the game and you'll know what I mean. If you are an RPGamer, and you have a 360, this is a must have.

New system, Nintendo Wii:

Yes, I bought a Wii, I got a nice vacation bonus this year and decided to get myself a new system. I absolutely love it, I know all the bullcrap it gets from those "hardcore" gamers but i don't care. This system was never intended to be hardcore, Nintendo doesn't pretend it is either, they aim for a completely different audience wich mainly consist out of children and casual gamers. So fucking what? I've been gaming since I could walk, I grew up with Mario and Sonic and if playing a Wii makes me kiddy? then so be it, at least I'm having fun with it, and no matter what others say, that's what gaming's all about. So for games:

-Wii sports and Sports Resort.

Came with the system so no ducking this one, it's cool, neat for playing with friends for sure but IMO I had hoped for a better bundle, but alas.

-Super Mario Galaxy.

Like I said, I love Mario, I always have, it's just that in recent years with the more serious systems out there, I just neglected him. I haven't seriously played a Mario game since Super Mario World for the SNES. I never played 64 either but that's because I have always found the Nintendo 64 a disaster. I could not stand the graphics on that system AT ALL and the idea of cartridges in an age where both Sega and Sony were doing better games on discs just seemed retarded to me. Super Mario Galaxy is fabulous. I haven't had so much fun with a platformer in ages and I'm really glad I picked this one up.

-Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess.

Same thing, I love Zelda, always have. Wind Waker is the sole reason I bought a Gamecube back in the day and luck would have it that WW came with a bonus disc containing OoT. I haven't played much into it, but I'm sure it'll be grand.

-Metroid Prime Trilogy.

Now this is new for me, I played Super Metroid back when I was little and it didn't apeal to me then, I just got lost on that game. nevertheless I've always had an interest in getting back into the series, and I bumped into the entire trilogy the other day so i figured what the heck and picked it up.

-Tatsunoko vs Capcom Ultimate All Stars.

Tatsunoko and Capcom duking it out, what's not to like? It's a nice tag fighter but you really have to own a classic controller for this. I tried with the mote and nunchuck and it just doesn't work at all. If you're into fighters and you have a Wii, be sure to give this a shot.

-Fragile Dreams.

From the same guys who made Eternal Sonata. Same art style, same kind of music. it looks great but I can't really give an opinion on this yet. The controls seems a little weird but maybe this is just first impression being just that. Maybe I'll give more info later on.

Last but not least, for PS2:

Mana Khemia 1 and 2.

I put these two together for a very specific reason, they both play exactly the same. You're put into a school system, you take alchemy classes, you explore dungeons, get ingredients and make items using alchemy. I liked it, despite it being repetitve but this ain't for everyone. Also in MK2, the on screen text is WAY too small, barely readable so that's one gripe I have right there.

-Ar Tonellico 1 and 2.

Put these two together because I haven't played either of them yet. So nothing to tell about these either.

That's my most recent purchases, I know it's a bunch and it's been a while but i'll try to update more frequently from now on.
