Hi:
I am a new member here. I have played FF VII, VIII, IX, X, X-2, XI, Star Ocean:The Second Story.
I currently have, but not started: FF XII and Start Ocean:Till the end of time.
I cannot decided which one to start.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

RE: QUICK REVIEW PLEASE
I'm going to buy star ocean in a few days, but I've beat FFXII.

I'd say star ocean because FFXII isn't that interesting.

RE: QUICK REVIEW PLEASE
Both are awful.

Star Ocean has god awful voice acting, annoying and horribly cliched characters, a crappy plot, and an even worse twist. It's not worth it.

Final Fantasy 12 can be summed up like this: Absolutely nothing exciting happens. There's barely any worthy character development, the villain is almost nonexistent, and the plot is just utterly uninteresting. The game also plays itself. I literally beat the final boss barely touching my controller. I sat my controller down on a number of boss fights and came through on top with ease.

Don't waste your time with either.

RE: QUICK REVIEW PLEASE
It depends on what you typically play, man.

-Star Ocean has much more engaging gameplay, and has some difficulty. FFXII gameplay is very nice, but extremely simple, and doesn't really require you to do anything while battling.

-Star Ocean does as Sanity said, have pretty poor voice acting. Also, the actual progression of conversations/scenes is much slower than a modern game.

-I haven't completed Star Ocean, but I would say that both games have pretty cliche plots. FFXII is confusing at many points, but at its core is just a good versus evil story with lots of fluff around it. Star Ocean, is made up of lots of sub-plots that end up tying together towards the end. Personally, I think that Star Ocean's execution of plot goes over a lot better (or at least has so far). It doesn't try too hard to be epic, and because of that, and its straightforward nature, it irons out nicely, whereas FFXII left a bad taste of disappointment in my mouth.

Verdict
If you want more engaging battles and more of a challenge, play Star Ocean. If you want an amazing plotline, venture for another game altogether, or if that's not an option, play the two for a few hours and decide what is more interesting to you. FFXII is political and slightly moral, and Star Ocean is all kinds of things and kinda spreads out (and maybe spreads thin, too -_- ).

RE: QUICK REVIEW PLEASE
It doesn't "suck really bad." It just has several flaws.

I've never played Persona, but any Tales game is bound to be at least good if not more likely great.

RE: QUICK REVIEW PLEASE
Don't pay attention to these heathens - the voice acting in Star Ocean: TTEOT is nowhere near as bad as they make out. The core team of Fayt, Cliff and Nel are acted excellently in my opinion (particuarly Cliff and Nel).

The dialogue is very good also, but because they try to get conversations to flow in a realistic manner, they tend to last much longer than in most games.

I also disagree somewhat about it not being epic. They don't play fair with regard to promising a space opera and then delivering a fantasy adventure (at least for the first disc, anyway), but once you make your peace with it, it all builds quite nicely.

The game does fall apart shortly after the start of Disc 2, however. This is not an unusual factor in RPGs however, as most slump in the second half as character work is sacrificed at the expense of the plot.

Basically, Star Ocean isn't to everyone's tastes. It has a very 'you love it or you really, really don't' element about it.

To make it even simpler, play Star Ocean if you like Star Trek, and play FF12 if you like Star Wars.
