FF4: The After Years coming to Wiiware

well i guess this will be a fitting start back eh? haha. the FF4 sequal is definitely coming to the US and its coming as downloadable content for Wiiware. it was released as 9 different episodes in japan, so we dont know if its gonna be like that here or not, but its even got a little trailer:

I think this is a great idea, the whole releasing a new game with mad old school gameplay. sure as hell worked for mega man 9.

Square-Enix normally doesn't do a good job with sequel's but this isn't looking half bad.

I hope they just don't F up FFIV. They managed to almost completely ruin FFX with X-2. (that's pretty tough to do)

My only complaint, although I didn't see it in that trailer, is someone... Palom, I THINK, having purple hair in cutscenes or something. o.0

May not have been him, but I remember seeing a trailer or something ages ago with purple-haired Palom. >.>

But... Even if it looked like it was gonna be FFX-2 all over again, I'd still get this game in an instant. >.>

Well, nobody has seemed to post an opinion for this yet, so I'm not sure if any of you have given it a chance.

I just acquired this and have only played the intro so far, but I'll tell you how it plays and keep any potential spoilers out of it.

So it's a 2D top down world as was the original FFIV, much the same graphics, I would say sharper though. But other than the battle system, the game plays exactly like FFIV. The battle system is based on phases of the moon, which change everytime you rest at an inn, tent, etc. Either that or after any major event. Essentially the moon is a system of checks and balances. It'll penalize one type of ability (Physical attacke, Black magic, White magic...) and give you a bonus to another. Now with that knowledge in hand, it's up to you to adapt your strategem in order to compensate for whatever abilities penalized. I find the game enjoyable, however this is only an initial impression.

Oh by the way, the moon also affects monsters, so try not to double their attack power or anything. Also there's DLC which I haven't really touched on and won't be till I've played the main quest to completion.

I already saw a better review of this on the Square-enix website.
Lots of details about each character and their individual stories.
They all have their own specific mission that brings them back together as a team, but with added extras.
Some of it's still closed, obviously, but what I did see looked pretty good.
