To my surprise I haven't seen anything about this on the boards.
As you may or may not know, Japan recently had FFVII Advent Children Complete released and as an extra feature, a playable demo of FFXIII was included as well. In case you wish to view footage from the demo you can watch it here

No this demo will not be released with the North American version of AC Complete and No I haven't watched it myself since I will refrain myself from getting my hopes up on this game. I just thought I'd share this with you guys since this IS a FF Forum and because whenever I ask people about it they come falling out of the sky in surprise.

This is the Japanese FFVII AC Complete Blu-Ray and will work on North American/Japanese BRD players and PS3s ONLY, the FFXIII demo is region free. however anyone paying 69$ on a demo is insane in my opinion.
The demo ONLY comes with the first print and is available till stock lasts so don't be pissed when you get a copy that doesn't include the demo.

Looks pretty good so far, I like that it's gone back to ATB and it seems like you get to choose a list of battle options instead of just one each turn.
Which I'm guessing will make for some fab combos.

I don't like combos in any form of RPG. I like to take my time, not feel obligated to play aggressively. But it does look good. The two songs they played were great, the graphics were great and like Ephemeral said, the ATB system is more than welcome to make its comeback.

I'm very impressed.

Being as this is a gameplay demo, I'll try not to talk too much about other things, but I can't help it.

I'm very reminded of the sharp, crispness I felt the first time I played FFX. XIII appears to be very cinematic, which I think is a very good thing. Everything seemed very fluid as far as the transitions from scene to scene, screen to screen, and from running to battle. But not too fluid. A step away from FFXII and a step back towards what we've been used to is a step in the right direction. I think SE is finally realizing this. The battle system here looks great to me. Sure it's basic, turn-based, but I think they've really made a lot out of it. It still looks like there's a lot more going on than there is thanks to the camera angles and the amazing visuals. I'm glad to see something basic and repetitive actually.

The whole scope of everything looks pretty grandiose. We can't really take away much from this as far as story goes since it's all foregin, but you can definitely tell that they're going for something big. Something epic is afoot. The score is very grandiose as well, although it lacks the Nobuo "spark," and feels very reminiscent of XII, with a less baroque tinge and almost more of a J-Rock, Star Ocean tinge.

All in all, I think this is promising. I'm not hyped or anything, just more-so relieved to know that this isn't a train wreck right from the start. I'd say that this is more than a good sign for this game. Things look solid. As long as the cast doesn't get horrible voice acting for the localization (I will curse the heavens if this happens), and as long as the story is easy to follow, this game will do well and be well-received.

As far as voicing is concerned, I'm always hoping they include the japanese voice dialogue. I just can't help but feel better with japanese dialogue these days.

I totally agree, I'd much rather listen to the Japanese actors with well-translated subtitles. But as much as I hope for it, they never do it.

It's becoming more popular these days, especially with dual layer DVDs and most certainly it's possibly with BRD. A whole audio voice track is quite a bit of space so I can understand it's not included in earlier titles. Odin Sphere (wich was published here by Square-Enix) has a voice option so one can hope for it on their own titles right?

Not getting my hopes up either though, I just seriously don't see the big deal about including it.

Well if the actors are as good as they were in XII, things will be fine. They weren't stellar, so I'd be ecstatic if they were even better. But if they're as crappy as they were in X (which I doubt they could/will be) I'll be incredibly pissed and be begging for the Jap/sub.

I thought the voice acting in Final Fantasy XII was an absolute 10. Can't see why they'd go backwards, unless they choose to make the characters of this world strictly voiced in American accents, which would be a shame.

By the way, how cute is that little chocobo?! Haha. Maybe chocobos will have more involvement than they did in X and XII.

wow ok i'm impressed.

but has anyone else noticed how much the opening of this game is like the opening of FFVII. the train and the scorpion-like boss in particular, plus the fact that it's the rebels attacking a government idea. i think they may be trying to stick with the winning formula of seven. i just hope that they at least have some fresh ideas under their belts...
