The only rust you'll ever see in Final Fantasy is likely there just because it somehow looks cool. That's the purpose of every tiny shirt, every extra piece of armor, every feather, and every buckle and zipper. It looks cool.

I agree. If I was going to base my decision on what type of clothing someone was wearing, I certainly would suggest what was the most realistic. Rasler's armour in Final Fantasy XII actually has a clear opening in the chest, making it redundant. They do what looks cool, even when impractical. ie. Lulu's beltdress and Vaan's armoured greaves but bare chest.

However, my opinion has always been based on simply looking at it. From the artwork and the concept art, there is stitching in both drawings. Whilst it definitley has a metallic gleam, I would put that up to the fact that its probably silk.

RE: Beatrix's Eyepatch
Maybe it's hardened leather, like a leather half-mask, with lacquer on it.

I mean, gosh durnit, there just weren't enough random nonfunctional belts in this game. There must be one SOMEWHERE; it's Final Fantasy!
